Groovy Jungle Review

Groovy Jungle by Sibelius is the premier choice for teaching basic music skills to students ages 7-9.

It is a truly creative program, with sophisticated graphics that will capture young people's attention.  Beginning with the very fundamentals of music, Groovy Jungle's tutorials are visually simple, but fun enough to keep students' interest.  For example, young users will first learn concepts like "loud" and "soft", and as lessons advance and users grasp those basic ideas, they will learn that "loud" and "soft" concepts are called dynamics, and will later learn some of the details of the Italian terminology.  As you can see, the lessons are well-paced in their degrees of difficulty, and with twelve customizable multi-part lessons, it is easy to match a student's level of expertise with the appropriate lesson.

Students are exposed to a wide variety of virtual instruments, from all of the traditional Western instruments to the more exotic music-makers.  Emphasis is first placed on the fundamental instruments they are most likely to encounter (piano, a basic woodwind, a basic percussion, a basic string, a basic brass, etc.), and eventually branches out into the more unusual options.  With these instruments painting visual and aural examples, children go on to learn rhythm, dynamics, tempo, arpeggios, the concept of a bass line, meter, melody, etc.  Groovy Jungle offers two basic learning methods, "Create" and "Explore"; at any point during the "Create" option, though fun shapes and jungle themes are used, the more-advanced students can view the actual notation of their own creations.  During the "Explore" lessons, users are surprised by exciting "bonuses", exotic animals with their own jungle sounds, acting as an incentive to learn, both fun and educational!  Also during the "Explore" option, students get to create their own theme music for their character as they trek through an exotic jungle full of colorful animals, wild vegetation, and bright butterflies.  Groovy Jungle seamlessly integrates music education tools with jungle fun, in an effective and imaginative way!
